This affordable property in Panama City Beach, Florida, near Tyndall AFB, overlooks the Bay of St. Andrews. It offers log cabins and caravans, as well as two parking spaces for motorhomes. Facilities include a beach, marina and children's playground.

The cabins sleep up to six people and cost $70 a night for military families. Travel trailers are $35 and $40 per night for off-site use and $40. RV sites are $22/night.

This military recreation area is associated with Fort Benning, Georgia, but is located on Florida's beautiful Emerald Coast, across from Eglin Air Force Base. It is a 6 acre gated resort with a pool, water park, fishing pier and boat rentals. Accommodation includes two and three bedroom villas, apartments and studios, standard hotel rooms and a newly renovated caravan park.

Annual rates are standard for Active Duty E-5 and below. All other guests pay slightly higher rates from March to September. Even the most expensive option, the 3-bedroom Deluxe Villa, costs just $170 per night during high season.

Ocean Beach Drive

Booking conditions: Most accommodation, except villas, can be booked up to a year in advance. Active service can book villas 6 months in advance and everyone else can book them 4 months in advance.

This facility is located in Kure Beach, NC, between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean. It offers a wide range of accommodation options, including: caravans, tents and yurts; Mobile house; one, three and four bedroom cottages; and individual rooms in the lodge. Amenities include equipment rentals, an outdoor pool, and a recreation building with a fitness center.

Prices vary by accommodation, season and salary grade. Click here for the most current rates. Peak season is Memorial Day through Labor Day. The rest of the year is considered off-peak.

Reservation Policy: Service members and families at Seymour Johnson AFB may make reservations up to 180 days in advance. Other active services can be reserved 150 days in advance. Pensioners and everyone else can book 120 days in advance

Located on a beautiful stretch of North Carolina coastline, Onslow Beach is a relaxing, low-key destination. Depending on the time of year you visit, you might find shark teeth on the beach or see turtle hatchlings!

Retired and active service from other locations can make reservations 18 weeks in advance.

This full-service military recreation area is a great retreat for families based in the Washington, DC area. The facility is located on the Patuxent River, just off the Chesapeake Bay. It offers a variety of outdoor activities including the beach and marina, fishing, miniature golf and the Riverside Aquatics Complex. Solomons Island is about 20 minutes from NAS Patuxent River and is also close to restaurants and bars.

Choose from a range of accommodation including cabins, log cabins, apartments, military camps and yurts. Prices vary by season and type of accommodation, but even a five-bedroom waterfront cottage costs only about $200 a night during high season.

This Maine military recreation area is a Portsmouth Naval Shipyard MWR operation. It offers a range of accommodation options, including two lodges designed for groups of eight to eleven guests, cabins, yurts and caravans, as well as rustic campsites. Great Pond Adventure Center is a good choice for any season; you can rent equipment for boating, fishing, hiking, cycling, skating and other winter activities. Not only is Fort Tuthill an affordable starting point for your visit to the Grand Canyon (a 90-minute drive), but it offers year-round outdoor activities. During the warmer months, enjoy hiking, canoeing and whitewater rafting. In winter, you can ski or snowboard in the southern reaches of the Rocky Mountains. Fort Tuthill also offers numerous organized excursions, including paddling, hiking, mountain biking and rafting.

You can choose from a hotel, cabins, yurts and RV/camping. The accommodation is rustic, but has all the essentials. Prices vary depending on accommodation and season.

This recreational area is open year-round and is located about an hour north of San Antonio, Texas. It offers relaxing beaches and a range of outdoor activities including boating, cycling, hiking and the new 'Neo Canyon' for children.

Another of our year-round military recreation centers is Big Bear. This military recreation area is located in the San Bernadino Mountains, about 100 miles west of Los Angeles, CA. In the winter months, you can go skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing. When the weather warms up, enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, tennis, water skiing or boating.

Big Bear has eight cabins, each accommodating up to six people. They also have five RV sites and designated campsites. Prices vary depending on the time of year and day of the week. Due to the relatively small number of cabins, getting a reservation can be competitive, so Big Bear has strict requirements. You can make a reservation up to 90 days before the month of your visit, starting on the first calendar day of the month (so call the first day of March for May reservations). Active duty Marines and other active duty military personnel stationed on a Marine Corps installation have a slight advantage; they can call on the first day of the month. Other active duty members may make reservations beginning on the second day of the month. All others must wait until the 3rd day of the month.
